Toughter Int'l Stance on Terrorism is the Main G20 Summit Outcome - Erdogan

According to Turkey's president, the G20 countries are resolved on taking a tougher stance on terrorism following the Antalya summit.

ANTALYA (Sputnik) — A toughened international stance on terrorism is the main outcome of the G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday.

"We want to condemn the terrorist attack in Paris, to emphasize our denouncement of terrorist acts, and yesterday we stood during a minute of silence to commemorate those killed in them. The main result in Antalya is the G20 countries taking a tougher stance on terrorism," Erdogan told reporters during the summit.

Terrorism was a prominent topic on the G20 agenda after opening with a minute of silence for the victims of Friday's deadly attacks in Paris. A joint statement was released by G20 leaders on Sunday, committing the participant countries to cooperating in resolving the global terrorist threat.

Cooperation between nations in fighting against terrorism is an issue demanding much stronger determination, Erdogan said, stressing that the G20 group is an ideal forum for resolving the issue.

The G20 is a global forum attended by the leaders of the world's leading economies, aimed at discussing economic and financial cooperation. Its members account for approximately 85 percent of global GDP and 80 percent of global trade. Turkey took over the G20 term presidency from Australia in late 2014.
