Obama Holds National Security Council Meeting, Heads for G20 Summit

US President Barack Obama has finished the urgent US National Security Council meeting in the wake of multiple terror attacks in the French capital and left for Turkey to take part in the G20 meetings, the White House said on Saturday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Any details of the meting were not immediately available.

"The President's team briefed him on the latest intelligence surrounding the attacks, and while noting that there was no specific or credible threat to the United State —reviewed our homeland security posture to ensure we are doing everything necessary to protect the American people," the statement read.

The Security Council reviewed the intelligence picture, noting that there was no information availiable to contradict the initial French assessment of the Islamic State responsibility, according to the White House.

On Friday night, eight extremists wearing explosive belts attacked several venues across Paris, killing 129 people at restaurants, the Bataclan concert hall and in the vicinity of the Stade de France stadium.

On November 15-16, the Turkish city of Antalya will host the 10th G20 summit. A number of expert and ministerial meetings is scheduled to take place during the event.

French leader Francois Hollande canceled his participation in the G20 summit following the Friday night terrorist attacks, and held an urgent Defense Council meeting on Saturday morning.
