Russian and Indian troops held the first firing exercises during the joint Indra-2015 drills in northern India’s Mahajan firing range, the Russian Defense Ministry’s Southern Military District press service said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Indian military was satisfied with the results of the exercises and also noted the Russian weapons’ reliability and ease of use.

"The representatives of the Indian Armed Forces studied particularities of the Russian weapons and carried out firing exercises with RPG-7 grenade launchers, machine guns and Kalashnikov assault rifles, Dragunov sniper rifles assigned to mechanized infantry units of the Southern Military District," the district said in a statement.

Russian, Indian Troops Destroy 'Terrorists' in Drills
Up to 250 Russian troops are taking part in the drills that are being held November 7-20, which have been termed "Counter-Terrorism Operations in Desert Terrain under a United Nations Mandate."

The exercises are expected to move from the first "Combat Conditioning and Tactical Training" phase to the "Validation" active phase on November 16.

Russia and India have maintained a close partnership in military and technical cooperation for decades. The two countries have been conducting joint military drills annually since 2003.
