The militsiya (police force) in Russia was established on November 10, 1917 under the official name of the Workers’ and Peasants’ Militsiya. Between March 1919 and July 1923 Felix Dzerzhinsky was Minister of Internal Affairs.

They also maintained security at several international forums and over 25,000 sports events, including the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Sochi.
