Washington has driven itself into a corner by attempting to isolate Moscow and disrupting majority of the well-established contacts, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Following the reunification of Crimea with Russia in March 2014 and an escalation of the Ukrainian crisis later that year, Russia's relations with the West, including the United States, deteriorated dramatically.

"They [the US partners] have become hostages of their own invented models. On the one hand, the pseudo isolation of Russia that they would very much like to implement, and which, obviously, did not succeed. On the other hand, they have unilaterally frozen the cooperation in all directions, leaving, in fact, only one channel — cooperation with the Foreign Ministry," Zakharova told Russia’s Komsomolskaya Pravda daily in an interview.

At present, there are dozens of issues that need finding solutions and collaboration, and practically no relevant channels to settle them have remained, she added.

"It is impossible to say about the isolation of the country, which you yourself recognize as the largest actor on a range of international issues," the ministry’s spokeswoman stressed.

Washington, Brussels and their allies imposed several rounds of sanctions against Russia, accusing it of meddling in Ukrainian internal affairs. Moscow has repeatedly denied the allegations.

In spite of geopolitical tensions, Russia has repeatedly expressed its readiness to resume cooperative dialogue with Western partners to jointly address urgent and highly important global issues.
