US May Lift Anti-Russia Sanctions if Minsk Agreement Fully Implemented
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Moscow awaits Brussels decision regarding the prolonging of sanctions against Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

“We are waiting for our partners to make a decision, this is completely up to Brussels,” Peskov told reporters.

The current EU economic sanction regime, introduced over claims of Russian support for an eastern Ukraine rebellion against coop-imposed Kiev authorities, expires January 31, 2016.

EU member states agreed that the restrictive measures would remain in place until full implementation of the February Minsk deal toward Ukraine reconciliation, which set a deadline of the end of the year.

On Wednesday, President of the European Council Donald Tusk said Moscow was not fully abiding by the terms of the Minsk agreement and Brussels would consider those allegations while deciding whether to prolong anti-Russia sanctions.

Russia has denied Western accusations and continued to act as a mediator for reconciliation in Ukraine despite the economic sanctions.
