Moscow, Cairo Discuss Russia's Decision to Suspend Flights to Egypt

The practical aspects of further strengthening of Russian-Egyptian cooperation were considered in the context of the investigation into the causes of the crash of the Russian airline in the disccusion between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Mohammed Badri.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov discussed on Saturday with Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Mohammed Badri Moscow’s decision to suspend flights to Egypt, Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On Friday, Russia suspended its flights to and from Egypt until the inquiry into the Russian A321 crash in the Sinai Peninsula is over.

“During the talks, the practical aspects of further strengthening of Russian-Egyptian cooperation were considered in the context of the investigation into the causes of the crash of the Russian airliner in Sinai on October 31, as well as [in the context of] the decision to suspend flights of Russian airline companies to Egypt,” the statement said.

On October 31, the Russian A321 airliner crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula killing all 224 people on board in what has become the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian history.
