The Obama administration announces the decision to reject constructing Keystone XL pipeline.

Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, who was charged with making a recommendation on the controversial project, were scheduled to meet Friday morning, ahead of public remarks on the fate of Keystone XL.

The decision caps a 7-year project that became one of the biggest environmental flashpoints of Obama's presidency.

On Thursday, the Obama administration submitted its decision to continue the review process of the Keystone XL Pipeline despite a request from TransCanada to halt it.

The pipeline was expected to bring about 830,000 barrels of oil daily from Canada to US refineries.
