Russia's Contacts With Syrian Opposition 'Beneficial for Anti-Terror Fight'

The Russian General Staff said earlier on Tuesday that the Russian air group deployed in Syria had begun coordinating its airstrikes against terrorists with patriotic forces within the Syrian opposition.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday confirmed contacts between the Russian military and moderate Syrian opposition, saying they were beneficial for anti-terrorism fight and Syrian reconciliation.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry knows about these contacts, and confirms their fruitful nature," Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters in Moscow.

"We view these contacts between the Russian military and moderate Syrian opposition as timely and beneficial for both the anti-terrorism fight and the progress in the political process in Syria," Bogdanov stressed.
