WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States will take actions against Russia if reports that Moscow allegedly helped to transfer Iranian weapons to Syria are true, US State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a press conference on Thursday.

“We will be looking into these press reports, and if Russia is found to be facilitating those transfers, we are going to raise that in the appropriate channels, both bilaterally and at the UN if warranted,” Kirby stated.

On Thursday, Fox News reported that Russia helped deliver Iranian weapons to Syria “twice a day over the past 10 days.” The media outlet attributed the information to Western intelligence sources.

The export of Iranian weapons is banned under UN Security Council resolution 1747.

The United States has also imposed sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security for providing material assistance to the Syrian government of President Bashar Assad.
