MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Any attempts “to rock the boat” ahead of parliamentary elections in Venezuela slated for December 6 would be a dangerous scenario, the director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Latin American Department said.

“We are interested in a stable, developing, and economically prospering Venezuela as an important government in the region. Obviously any attempts to rock the boat, especially ahead of elections, would not be helpful,” Alexander Shchetinin told RIA Novosti in an interview.

“Forcing a situation around elections is a very dangerous scenario,” he added.

The controversy around the election in Venezuela started after the country excluded the Organization of American States (OAS) and the European Union as observers for the December election.

Earlier this month, US State Secretary John Kerry criticized the alleged lack of international observers at the election, calling Venezuela an "imperfect democracy," and said the voting procedure would demonstrate what sort of democracy Venezuela was.

Angel Rodriguez, one of the leaders of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) told Sputnik earlier in October that Washington "intensified pressure and attacks" on Caracas ahead of the electoral process.
