EU border agency Frontex pledged to strengthen operations at Greek borders with Macedonia and Albania, as well as boost its presence at Croatia’s border with Serbia, Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri said in a statement Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Leggeri, the agency will assist in the process of identification of migrants, comprising registration and fingerprinting.

"Frontex will launch additional operations in Greece, Croatia and Bulgaria to manage the EU external borders in a more coordinate manner. The agency stands ready to help EU Member States to manage these unprecedented migration flows together," Leggeri said.

The European Union is currently managing a massive refugee crisis, as hundreds of thousands of people flee conflict-torn regions in Syria, seeking asylum within the bloc. According to Frontex, over 480,000 refugees have arrived in Greece alone since the beginning of 2015.

Frontex aims at coordinating and developing EU border management, including providing EU member states with assistance.
