Russian Navy to Create Special Units to Mimic Opponents' Tactics

The Russian Navy plans to create special military units that would play the role of potential enemy forces during naval exercises, Russian Navy Rear Admiral Viktor Kochemazov said, according to TV Channel Zvezda.

Kochemazov was invited to the program "Military Council" on radio station Echo of Moscow.

"We already have an idea of creating a special division, which would imitate the system of combat of [Russia's] potential enemies during trainings on a regular basis," Kochemazov explained.

Currently, when Russian naval troops conduct military drills some of their counterparts act as a potential enemy. However, units that act as enemy troops during military drills don't have special training to mimic real opponents which could lead to Russian naval units not being fully prepared for all possible warfare scenarios at sea.

With the introduction of these training units that would specialize in mimicking potential enemies, the Russian Navy would fill this gap and become prepared to face anything, anywhere and from anyone.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Russian Navy received one new submarine and seven warships along with seven new aircraft in the third quarter of 2015.

Russia is currently carrying out a $325 billion rearmament program to modernize 70 percent of its military equipment by 2020.
