KIEV (Sputnik) — A total of 237 polling stations across Ukraine did not open for local elections taking place in the country on Sunday, the Interior Ministry said.

"As of 9.30 a.m. local time (07:30 GMT)…29,264 polling stations began their work. Out of them 237 did not open," the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the stations failed to open due to errors in ballots and the election committee's rejection to register participants of the voting.

The voting in eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk is taking place only in regions under Kiev's control.

Previously the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics planned to hold their own elections before October 25, but later agreed to postpone the vote until 2016.

The elections' vote count will be finished by November 4 and the results should be published within 5 days.
