Turnout at the first round of parliamentary elections in Egypt was 26.56 percent, the country’s election committee said Wednesday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — The first vote phase was held on Sunday and Monday, with run-offs scheduled for October 27-28 amid a low turnout. Only 7.27 million out of the 27.42 million eligible voters made it to the polling stations, according to the Election Committee said. Some 700,000 ballots were deemed invalid.
