Argentina-Russia Strategic Ties to Remain Same Regardless of Election
The diplomatic relationship between Russia and Argentina will remain unchanged regardless of the outcome of upcoming presidential election, Argentinian ambassador to Russia Pablo Tettamanti told Sputnik on Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Presidential election in Argentina will take place October 25.
"The course [of relations has been laid out] once and for all. The relationship with Russia is a strategy of the Argentine state, and I have no doubt that it will continue this way," Tettamanti said after the inauguration of an exhibition at the Russian Foreign Ministry commemorating the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In April, Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a Moscow visit. The sides signed a number of cooperation deals and confirmed that the bilateral ties between Moscow and Buenos Aires were strengthening.
Tettamanti stressed that the connection between Russia and Argentina was supported by "values, history and interests," adding that the two countries were currently experiencing warm bilateral relations.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said earlier in the day that he hoped that the relations between the two countries would strengthen after the upcoming presidential election in Argentina.
