Just imagine a team of robots consistently carrying out a rescue operation. Or detecting and smashing terrorists. Russian robots will be able to organize themselves into self-sufficient groups, choose a leader and carry out complicated joint operations automatically.

Russia has successfully tested and started using the “Unicum” software designed to control a group of robots.

This one-of-kind system in Russia is expected to be used in both civilian and military robots such as UAVs, the manufacturer told RIA Novosti.

The software endows machines with intellectual abilities to accomplish civilian or military tasks individually and in groups without human control. The software can manage 10 robotic systems on land, sea and in the air.

The interesting peculiarity of the “Unicum” is that it gives machines a stunning ability of self-organization:

robots will be able to appropriate duties, select a leader, substitute damaged units, come into advantageous positions, search for targets and strike them in an automatic mode.
