Putin to Meet Kazakh President on Thursday, Take Part in CIS Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Kazakhstan counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev, in the country's capital on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Putin arrived in Astana on Wednesday evening for a two-day state visit.

On Friday, Putin is expected to take part in a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as well as a session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

The Russian and Kazakh leaders are expected to sign a series of joint documents, including on the demarcation of the northern part of the Caspian Sea’s bottom.

A number of topical issues of regional and international relevance, including on cooperation between Moscow and Astana in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Syrian civil war and the Ukrainian conflict will dominate the meeting agenda.

Particular attention will also be paid to boosting bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Earlier, Putin aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the president's visit was "specially intended to demonstrate the high level of Russian-Kazakh cooperation."
