Lockheed Martin Wins $17.6Mln Contract to Upgrade Two F-35 Fighters

Lockheed Martin has won a $17.6 million contract to upgrade two of F-35A Lightning II fighter-bombers for non-US purchasers, the US Department of Defense announced in a release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The work is expected to be completed in September 2021, according to the release.

"This order provides for the procurement of retrofit modification kits and associated engineering installation services in support of the Block 3F upgrade of two F-35A aircraft for non-Department of Defense (DoD) participants," the release, issued on Wednesday, stated.

Most of the work on the contract will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas with the remaining 10 percent being carried out in Baltimore, Maryland, the release said.

Last week, the US Navy completed its second round of flight tests of the F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter onboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
