Russia Hopes Intergov't Commission to Curb Negative EconomicTrends

Moscow hopes that the resumption of the work of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Finland and Russia will help overcome the negative trends in bilateral relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Wednesday.

OULU (Finland) (Sputnik) — He specified that the decision on the renewal of the commission’s work had already been agreed on, and thanked the Finnish side for appointment of the organization’s co-chairman.

"We hope that the Finnish-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation resuming its activities… will help reverse negative tendencies [in economic sphere]," Lavrov said at a press conference.

Lavrov also welcomed the decision by the Finnish government to continue the project of building nuclear power plants in the country with the participation of Russia's Rosatom state nuclear corporation.
