A group of Russian MiG-31BM (NATO reporting name Foxhound) interceptor aircraft will practice take off, convergence with targets and destruction of said targets with air-to-air missiles on Monday, a Central Military District spokesman said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The MiG-31 is a long-range supersonic interceptor jet. The two-seater aircraft can intercept targets up to 200 kilometers (124 miles) away thanks to its advanced radar and long-range missiles. It can operate efficiently in all weather conditions and is equipped with state-of-the-art digital avionics.

The exercises are taking place in the Republic of Buryatia in southeastern Russia.

"The aviation group of MiG-31BM interceptor aircraft will intercept the simulated enemy aircraft, threatening concealed objects during the flying-technical exercise which started today," Yaroslav Roshchupkin said.
