Raytheon will install passive barrier fencing, sensors, cameras and a command and control system on the border between Jordan and Syria, according to the company's press release.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) has awarded a new $18.6 million contract to help secure Jordan’s borders with Syria, defense contractor Raytheon announced in a press release on Thursday.

“Raytheon will install passive barrier fencing, sensors, cameras and a command and control system,” the release stated. “The focus is to enhance the Jordanian Armed Forces' ability to deter, detect and interdict threats.”

The award is part of DTRA's Jordan Border Security Project (JBSP).

Raytheon previously announced the completion of the initial two phases of the JBSP project, including providing critical capabilities to secure the Jordan-Iraq border.

“The best border security solution is the right combination of equipment, training and sustainment,” Todd Probert, vice president for Mission Support and Modernization at Raytheon Intelligence and Information Systems, said in the statement.

Raytheon specializes in electronics, sensing and command, control, communications and intelligence systems, as well as cybersecurity. In 2014, Raytheon’s sales amounted to $23 billion.
