UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — Germany can't cope with the 600,000 refugees that have arrived in the country since the start of this year, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Thursday at the UN General Assembly in New York.

"We have taken in 600,000 refugees since the start of this year, with 10,000 arriving every day. These figures show that we cannot cope with this task alone, an all-European decision must be taken," the minister said.

Steinmeier called on European nations to show solidarity with Germany. "I do not know a single culture where there is no idea of what a good neighbor is," he said, urging EU member states to share the burden of the refugee crisis.
