BERLIN (Sputnik) — On Thursday, the German parliament, the Bundestag, is expected to discuss amendments to the country’s migration legislation. The changes to the bill categorize Albania, Kosovo and Montenegro as safe countries of origin without political repression and armed conflicts. Therefore, migrants from these states will not be granted asylum in Germany.
“[Migrants] who are not entitled to stay, will have to leave our country,” Maiziere told the deputies in the Bundestag.
He added that Germany needed to develop its “hospitality culture,” by encouraging patience and tolerance among both the German population and the new arrivals.
Germany is facing a huge inflow of refugees from war-torn regions in the Middle East and North Africa. Meanwhile, some 40 percent of asylum applicants lodged in Germany are from the Western Balkans countries.
Earlier in September, German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel said that as many as one million refugees could come to the country by the end of 2015.
