Greek FM Invites Russia's Lavrov to Visit Athens During 2016 Cross-Year

Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias invited his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to visit Athens during the cross-year in 2016.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — The Greek left-wing ruling Syriza party has recently taken a number of steps to accelerate economic and strategic cooperation with Russia.

"2016 is the year of the Greek-Russian friendship and cooperation, and I have invited [Sergei] Lavrov to visit Athens this year, so that we could promote our cooperation", the Greek minister said following the meeting with Lavrov.

According to Kotzias, the situation in Ukraine and the Greek-Russian cooperation were the main topics of the ministers' discussion on Tuesday.
