They have now extended the timeline — to the actual day of the debate — so that Biden could announce his candidacy on the same day — literally — and still be eligible.
For CNN’s Republican debate in early September, candidates had to have visited and have at least one paid campaign staffer in two of the four early primary states, in addition to at least 1% support in three national polls, Politico reported. There are no such requirements for the Democratic debate.
The DNC has been under fire for weeks for their decision to only allow six debates — which many believe is a set-up to keep Sanders and his increasingly popular message hidden from voters. As Sanders’ name recognition grows, however, so does his favorability and numbers in the polls.
In comparison, during the 2008 primaries, there were more than 20 scheduled debates.
Despite not having announced a run, Biden has also been included in most recent polls, giving him the advantage of seeing how he would do, without having to actually do it.
With the media elite and political establishment being called out by Sanders at every turn, it is no wonder they’ll do anything in their power to prevent his win.
