WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US President Barack Obama will address the Iranian nuclear deal and the ongoing fight against the Islamic State (ISIL) jihadist group during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Monday, a White House official said.

“He [US President Obama] will point to the Iranian nuclear deal as an example of what can be accomplished by international cooperation when nations are held accountable for violating international rules, and principled diplomacy is pursued to achieve our objectives,” the official told reporters on Sunday.

He added that Obama would also "speak to the need for coupling our military efforts against ISIL with a commitment by all nations to seek and support a political resolution in Syria.”

Besides, the US president will touch upon such issues as health, development, trade, human rights and climate change.

Obama's speech is scheduled for 14:00 GMT.

On July 14, Iran, Russia, the United States, China, the United Kingdom, France and Germany signed a historic deal to guarantee the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.

The ISIL, a radical Sunni group, has ceased vast areas in Syria and Iraq, spreading radical ideology and committing numerous human rights atrocities, including beheading of religious minorities representatives and foreign hostages posted online.
