Putin, Netanyahu Reach ‘Preliminary Agreement’ to Share Info on Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a meeting in Moscow on Monday. Netanyahu's visit to Moscow is the first meeting with the Russian president since November 2013, when the Israeli prime minister attempted to tighten conditions or stall the Iran nuclear deal.

MOSCOW, September 24 (Sputnik) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have reached a “preliminary agreement” on sharing information on Syria, the Kremlin confirmed Thursday.

“In regard to the channels of exchanging information and agreeing possible activities, then yes, this topic was discussed and preliminary agreements were reached during the meeting with Netanyahu,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists.

Putin and Netanyahu agreed Monday to create a coordination mechanism to avoid 'misunderstanding' between Israeli and Russian forces involved in the Syrian conflict, the Ynetnews portal reported.

According to Yetnews, Netanyahu told a news conference after the meeting that his goal was "to prevent misunderstandings between IDF troops and Russian troops" by creating a coordination mechanism.
