The US-led coalition's airstrikes hit two of ISIL's major weapon production facilities, according to CENTCOM.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition destroyed two of the Islamic State’s major vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) production facilities near the Iraqi city of Mosul, the US Central Command announced on Thursday.

"We will continue to systematically target and attack the Daesh [Islamic State] VBIED network to increase security for the Iraqi Security Forces and the Iraqi population," CJTF-OIR Public Affairs Officer Col. Christopher Garver said in a press release.

The 62-member coalition has carried out over 6,500 airstrikes on ISIL militants since August 2014.

US officials estimate that the anti-ISIL campaign has killed more than 10,000 terrorists, while the Syrian Network for Human Rights estimates that coalition airstrikes have been responsible for of 225 civilians deaths, including 65 children and 37 women, as of August 2015.

ISIL controls large parts of Iraq and Syria, and is notorious for the atrocities it commits, including the beheading of foreign hostages. The group’s affiliates also operate in North Africa, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
