Greek Syriza Party Wins Parliamentary Elections With Over 35% of Votes

The left-wing Greek Syriza party has won a snap election with 35.46 percent of support after over 99.5 percent of the votes have been counted, according to official results published by the Greek Interior Ministry on Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Syriza is followed by the New Democracy party with 28.09 percent and the Golden Dawn party with 6.99 percent.

According to the latest results, Syriza will receive 145 seats in the parliament, while the New Democracy and the Golden Dawn parties will receive 75 and 18 seats respectively, out of 300 seats total.

On Sunday, Alexis Tsipras, the leader of the Syriza party, announced his party would form a coalition with the Independent Greeks (ANEL) party, which gained 3.69 percent of the votes.

Tsipras is expected to be sworn in as prime minister later in the day, and his government is anticipated to be sworn in Tuesday.
