Iran will move ahead with its own roadmap for a peaceful settlement in Syria after consultations with Russia, the country’s deputy foreign minister said on Wednesday.

"The Islamic Republic’s plan for ending the conflict in Syria will be implemented after consultations with Russian officials a few days from now," Iran’s news agency FARS quoted Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as saying.

The Iranian roadmap envisages a set of measures such as an immediate cessation of hostilities, formation of a unity government, constitutional amendments and internationally-monitored elections.

According to France Presse, on August 12 Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif submitted the draft for consideration by Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Assad hailed the plan as a "constructive political initiative on the part of Iran."
