Germany's Policy Hampers Refugee Crisis Resolution - Czech FM

Germany is creating challenges in solving the refugee issue in Europe with its inconsistent policy, Czech Interior Minister Milan Chovanec said Tuesday.

PRAGUE (Sputnik) – Earlier in the day, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told local media that he supported EU funding cuts being applied to the countries that do not want to adhere to the refugee resettlement plan.

"Currently the greatest challenge in solving the migration is Germany’s inconsistent policy. Even displaying the muscles to its neighbors over the border will not hide it," Chovanec said.

On Monday, European interior ministers failed to agree on the relocation of 120,000 refugees throughout the bloc’s 28 members on an equitable basis.

The ministers agreed to redistribute 40,000 refugees, currently in Greece and Italy, as proposed by Brussels under the first emergency package in May.

A final decision on the refugee resettlement is now expected at another justice and home affairs council meeting on October 8 in Luxembourg.

Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have so far expressed their intent to reject the new migrant quota.

Europe is currently struggling with what is being called the worst refugee crisis since World War II. President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said earlier this month that nearly half a million migrants and asylum seekers were estimated to have entered Europe since the beginning of the year.
