The 10th annual International Russia Arms Expo RAE-2015 kicked off in the city of Nizhny Tagil on Wednesday and runs until September 12. During the event, Russia will showcase the brilliancy of its latest military equipment and technology.
The Russia Arms Expo is a biennial major international exhibition of weapons systems which has been taking place in the Urals city of Nizhny Tagil since 1999.

The exhibition focuses on military equipment, weaponry, drones, ammunition and related components (rounds for self-propelled, field, tank, anti-tank, anti-aircraft and airborne artillery systems), logistical equipment, simulators and technical training resources, equipment for railway troops.

The goal of the exhibition is to promote Russian military equipment, weapons and ammunition on a domestic and global stage, attract new foreign partners, display the latest advancements in Russian and foreign military-equipment and expand networking opportunities for military equipment, weapons and ammunition producers and their customers.

The exhibition is sponsored by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade and the government of the Sverdlovsk Region, with the research and production corporation Uralvagonzavod acting as its general organizer.

The exhibition is held at the Nizhny Tagil State Demonstration and Exhibition Center of Armament and Military Equipment, part of the Nizhny Tagil Institute of Metal Testing, which covers an area of 43,000 square feet and having a total floor space of 75,000 square feet.

This integrated facility includes pavilions, service modules, open-air sites, roads for showing armored and other vehicles in action, helipads, firing positions for cannons and missiles, a shooting gallery and specially equipped areas for exhibiting protective gear and rescue systems.

Another facility, which has an experimental airfield and a "battlefield" with target assemblies, serves as a platform for unlocking the potential of aircraft and their weaponry.

The Russia Arms Expo is a center of technological know-how making it possible to film and broadcast various tests, previews and presentations of cutting-edge Russian weapons.

The Russia Arms Expo boasts a unique testing site for displaying the entire combat potential and performance of military weapons and equipment.

The event brings together over 400 participants and defense-ministry representatives from over 50 foreign countries, including national defense ministers and chiefs of staff.

It is expected that over 20,000 people will visit this year’s edition of the exhibition.

On September 25-28, 2013, Nizhny Tagil hosted the 9th RAE event, featuring 2,560 exhibits, of which 85 were large-scale exhibits, displayed on open-air sites, with 81 exhibits completing trial runs.

In all, 45 foreign defense-ministry delegations, an all-time high, visited the exhibition in 2013.

The 10th RAE event will demonstrate weapons, military equipment and ammunition on state-of-the-art fixed-wing aircraft and attack helicopters, including the Mil Mi-24 Hind and the Kamov Ka-52 Hokum-B Alligator helicopters. Innovative robotic weapon systems and control systems using drones will also be showcased.

Visitors can expect to see Russia’s state-of-the-art Armata tank on display at RAE-2015. The three-member vehicle includes a 125-mm smoothbore cannon and 7.62-mm remote-control machine gun as its main armament.

The Koalitsia-SV self-propelled howitzer will also try to steal the show at RAE-2015. Armed with a 152-mm gun, the artillery system is designed to destroy tactical nuclear weapons, armored weapons and fortifications, among other targets.
