VIENNA (Sputnik) — The minister said he hoped the European Union would equally require from all of its members to protect the external borders of the bloc, while Greece, according to Siyarto "completely ignored" the Schengen rules.
"I find it disgusting what the international media did with Macedonia, and they are doing the same thing now with Hungary, only even worse. What happened? The European Union pressed Macedonia not to allow the flow of migrants to the EU without the control. Let me also remind you that migrants came to Macedonia from Greece. Thus, the EU demanded from Macedonia, what it did not demand from its member [Greece]," Siyarto said in an interview with the Hungarian political publication Nepszabadsag.
The foreign minister said that the international media, when reporting, did not pose a question whether it was right to throw any objects at the police, in order to illegally cross the border.
Siyarto noted that although the "Macedonia gathered all its strength to do everything that was expected of her," "immigrants in response started throwing stones, bottles and who knows what else at the Macedonian police, when they only wanted to send them to the official border point where they had to be registered."
"I have not seen a proposal that would include a reasonable quota system," Siyarto said.
Hungary is being used as a gateway to wealthier EU countries by thousands of migrants. As a result, the country is experiencing an unprecedented influx of undocumented immigrants.
