The European Commission will come forward on Wednesday with an extended proposal to address the deteriorating EU migrant crisis with relocation of 120,000 additional refugees within the European Union.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The plan comes in addition to the May agenda to redistribute 40,000 asylum seekers, and is aimed at assisting Greece, Italy and Hungary in managing the unprecedented numbers of arriving migrants.

The proposal will include a number of measures to tackle the migrant crisis, including a permanent relocation mechanism and a list of safe countries of origin.

In his speech, Juncker will focus on the EC ten priorities that include the EU internal market, the controversial EU-US free trade agreement Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership's (TTIP), the issues of climate and energy, as well as migration.

The European Union is grappling with thousands of undocumented migrants, mainly from the Middle East and North Africa, arriving in the EU member states, fleeing violence and poverty in their home countries.

According to the EU border agency Frontex, a record number of over 340,000 refugees and migrants arrived at the EU borders between January and July 2015.
