Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Yasar Topcu has accused the BBC, Reuters, CNN and other western media outlets of justifying the Kurdistan Workers Party’s “terrorist activity” in the country’s southwest.

Commenting on the minister’s words about Turkey “now fighting the BBC, Reuters and CNN just like our grandfathers once did with guns and knives at Gallipoli,” Metin Külünk, a Justice and Development Party MP, said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was being attacked by the very same forces that once came out against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

“Many major western media centers are now part of a wide-scale project being implemented by the world powers… Under the disguise of journalistic freedoms and ethics, they are serving the interests of those who hate to see Turkey increasing its clout in the Middle East and getting rid of the terrorist threat,” Metin Külünk said.

“Why have we been seeing the number of terrorist attacks in Turkey going up sharply right after we said that we would not allow the Syrian Kurds’ Democratic Union Party establish a corridor in Syria? Why did our own left-wingers join forces with the PKK terrorists? Why are the western media trying so hard to justify the PKK’s actions and make them look like heroes?”

“Why did these media join the anti-Turkish operation now that this country is waging an uncompromising war on terror?”

The answer is clear: the very same forces that once were coming out against Putin are now targeting Erdogan, Metin Külünk noted.

“But Turkey is a sovereign country, which gained independence thanks to the heroism of its people who did not let the West enslave them. The people who never went down on their knees during the Gallipoli battle will stand just as tall also in the face of today’s provocations,” the Turkish MP said in conclusion.
