VLADIVOSTOK (Sputnik) – Russia and the United States have held talks on the creation of an international anti-terrorism coalition, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on Friday.

"We are taking specific steps, and doing it publicly. If you are interested in the details, I can tell you that we do want to create some kind of an international coalition to fight against terrorism and extremism. We are holding talks with our American partners," Putin said.

The Russian president added that he had discussed the issue with Obama over the phone and also had talks on the subject with the leaders of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, as well as other Russian partners.

Asked whether Russia could get involved in direct military action against ISIL militants, who have been active in Iraq and Syria, Putin said that it is too early to discuss the matter.

"We are already providing Syria with fairly strong support with technology and the training of military servicemen," the Russian president said.
