Some 2,500 refugees from Hungary and Austria have arrived by train to the southern German cities of Munich and Rosenheim, a representative of the German Federal Police confirmed on Tuesday.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — According to the police representative, refugees are being registered at Munich central railway station, where they are receiving food and water, before being then transferred to refugee centers.

"As of 8:00 a.m. [06:00 GMT] some 2,000 of them [refugees] were already there. Another 500 people came later. The number is constantly changing," the representative told RIA Novosti.

Earlier in the day, refugees in Hungary made a number of attempts to board trains departing for Germany and Austria. In response, the Hungarian authorities decided to temporarily close Budapest's eastern Railway terminus station.
