The Ukrainian People's Front Party will not nominate candidates for the upcoming local elections, party's leader Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced. He explained that the party will focus on the existing parliamentary coalition to continue nationwide reforms.

KIEV (Sputnik) — The Ukrainian People's Front party, headed by the country's Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, will not participate in the upcoming local elections in the country, the minister announced Friday.

The elections are scheduled for October 25, 2015.

"The People's Front party will not be nominating its candidates for local elections. We have taken on full responsibility for the state of affairs in the country, we are carrying out reforms… These are not national elections, these are local elections, and the Ukrainian people must elect new representatives to local governments," Yatsenyuk told reporters.

He argued that the existing parliamentary coalition of five pro-EU parties was the optimal format for continuing major reforms, and it was vital at this stage to maintain the unity of the coalition despite local elections.

The prime minister urged all "democratic parties" in the country’s legislature, the Verkhovna Rada, to rally around the common cause.
