Russian energy giant Gazprom said Wednesday there has been certain progress in its negotiations with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) on the construction of the so-called western route for gas deliveries, also known as Power of Siberia-2.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Gazprom head Alexey Miller met with CNPC head Wang Yilin and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli earlier in the day.

"The sides discussed issues of bilateral cooperation. The question of preparing a contract for the supply of Russian natural gas to China via the 'western' route was raised. It was noted that contract negotiations are steadily moving forward. The sides aim at their successful completion," Gazprom said in a statement following the talks.
