On Monday, the Turkish President called snap elections in the country’s parliament after his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) had failed to reach an agreement with other parliamentary parties to form a coalition government within the time allowed by the country's constitution.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has granted Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu a mandate to form an interim government, which will be in office until snap election in the country takes place, the Turkish presidential administration said in a statement on Tuesday.

The interim government must be formed within five days.

"The president has received today the prime minister and in accordance with the Turkish Constitution has instructed him to form an interim government," the statement read.
