The ruble’s devaluation will not affect the purchase of modern weapons for the Russian Army, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Tuesday.

ZHUKOVSKY (Sputnik) — Rogozin said that the Russian military industrial complex would benefit from the currency's devaluation making export of Russia-produced weapons more profitable.

"It would have definitely harshly affect our plans if we were ‘banana republic,’ which buys armaments abroad. But since we have made during the last three years powerful efforts to convert our plants from the rusty, heavy, non-working mechanism into the modern industry, as a matter of fact it does not affect our plans," Rogozin told RIA Novosti.

According to the deputy prime minister, Russia has evaded the threat by minimizing import in defense industry.

"So we have actually dodged the threat by having prepared detailed plans [of the import substitution]," Rogozin said.
