MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Izvestiya newspaper, the watchdog is hopeful that Wikipedia would remove the article. The website will be blocked if it fails to do so.
Earlier this month, a Russian court forwarded a request to Roskomnadzor to blacklist Wikipedia if it does not delete an article disseminating readily-available public information relating to methods of preparing substances that may contain materials classified in Russia as 'narcotic.'
A voluntary group controlling Wikipedia's operations in Russia that the encyclopedia would not delete the article, stating that the information was taken from the UN website and all the sources were academic.
Last year, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia would gradually close websites promoting violence and extremism, which under the country's Constitution is prohibited from being distributed.
