Resident of the North-central Washington towns of Twisp and Winthrop were urged by authorities to evacuate on Wednesday afternoon because of spreading wildfires in the region. The fire is one of many currently burning throughout the state’s northwest.
The three firefighters were killed in the town of Twisp on Wednesday evening, and four others were injured, according to the Sheriff. He did not provide any additional details on the firefighters.
State Governor Jay Inslee has also confirmed the deaths and expressed his condolences, saying the dangerous situation in the area is heartbreaking.
