Woman Undresses in Public to Raise Awareness of Body Issues

A girl strips down to her underwear to capture attention on a city street and raise awareness about body issues.

Carrying a few pens and a white board, Jae West stopped by an intersection in London's Piccadilly Circus on a busy Sunday afternoon. As the crowds rushed past her, she begins undressing herself. Curious passersby cast suspicious looks at her when she starts to blindfold herself. What first appears to be bizarre behavior turns into a powerful demonstration, once West turns a whiteboard to the crowd explaining that she is "standing for anyone who has struggled with an eating disorder."

With her arms outstretched, still holding the pens, the activist invites people to draw hearts on her body to support her cause. And they do. The slow stream of strangers approaching the girl quickly turns into a downpour, with many commending West for her bravery.

"After that first love heart was drawn it felt like others were liberated to follow suit," West later wrote on her blog. "Soon, all the pens were leaving my hands at a rapid pace."
