India Summons Pakistani Envoy Over Ceasefire Violation, Civilian Deaths

The Indian Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned Pakistani High Commissioner Abdul Basit over the recent ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops, which had resulted in civilian deaths, a source in the ministry told Sputnik.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — Six civilians were killed and 10 others injured in the cross border firing and shelling by the Pakistan troops in India-administered region of Jammu and Kashmir since Saturday.

On August 23, national security advisers from India and Pakistan are scheduled to meet in New Delhi to discuss the situation.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have been fueled by frequent exchanges of fire at the border, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.
