MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Moscow is counting on the US Congress to approve the nuclear agreement with Iran, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Friday.
"I hope the Congress approves the deal with Iran, because otherwise we will have a situation where there is a comprehensive joint action plan, a UN Security Council resolution, and the United States not acting in accordance with them," Ryabkov said.
"We presume that this hypothetical scenario will not happen, because the document [Iran deal] speaks for itself and offers answers to all questions," he added.
The West had long accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons, and imposed several rounds of sanctions against the country.
Last month, Iran and six world powers, including Russia and the United States, reached a deal lifting the sanctions against the Islamic Republic and ensuring the safe nature of Tehran’s nuclear program.
