Latest report by Public Policy Polling reveals that four Republican presidential candidates are polling ahead of Hillary Clinton in the key US swing state of Iowa.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Four Republican presidential candidates are polling ahead of Hillary Clinton in the key US swing state of Iowa, according to the latest report by Public Policy Polling (PPP).

“PPP's new Presidential poll in Iowa finds a tight race in the general election for President in the state. Hillary Clinton leads seven of her Republican opponents while trailing 4 of them,” the report stated on Tuesday.

In Iowa, Republican candidate Ben Carson is ahead of Clinton by four points. Mike Huckabee, Scott Walker and Marco Rubio were polled with a single point advantage over Clinton, according to the poll.

Presidential candidates are focused on Iowa because of the close number of Republican and Democratic voters, making it a swing state.

Iowa will also be the first to hold its primary election in February 2016, which will determine each party’s choice for president in the November 2016 general election.

The PPP report noted that Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders is also catching up with Clinton. Sanders is currently beating out two of the lead Republican candidates Jeb Bush and Donald Trump.

In the national polls, Hillary Clinton is still the Democratic Party frontrunner, leading Sanders by more than 35 points. On the Republican side, Donald Trump is still ahead of Bush by more than 10 points, followed by Scott Walker and Marco Rubio.

In the 2008 Iowa primary, Clinton came in third place among Democrats, behind current President Barack Obama and then-Senator John Edwards.
