Pakistan Summons Indian Deputy High Commissioner Over Ceasefire Violation

Pakistan summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad over a ceasefire violation on the de facto India-Pakistan border.

NEW DELHI (Sputnik) — The Pakistani Foreign Office summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner in Islamabad on Tuesday over a ceasefire violation on the de facto India-Pakistan border, spokesman for the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi Manzoor Memon told Sputnik.

Earlier this week, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces, said that the Indian troops violated the ceasefire by shooting a woman at the Line of Control (LoC) between the India-controlled state of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistani-controlled areas.

"The Indian Deputy High Commissioner was called to the Foreign Office… [on Tuesday regarding] the killing of Ms Fareeda… Pakistan has also expressed its deep concern at the continuous unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian security forces… and urged India to stop and observe the 2003 Ceasefire Agreement," Memon said.

India and Pakistan have disputed the Jammu and Kashmir region since the end of British rule in 1947. Following several wars and military conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003.

Tension between India and Pakistan has been fuelled by frequent exchanges of fire at the border, with both sides accusing each other of violating the ceasefire agreement.
