Russian border patrol officers have detained two Iranian Finnish citizens of Iranian origin who had been fishing in the Finnish lakes and had accidentally crossed the Russian border in the Svetly village of Russia’s Murmansk Region, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said in a statement to media Thursday.

MURMANSK (Sputnik) – The detainees had driving licenses and documents confirming their residence in Finland on them, according to the statement.

“According to the foreigners, they were fishing in one of the Finnish lakes on the border [with Russia], got lost and on the way back found themselves on the Russian territory,” the FSB press service stated.

The Iranians were fined 10,000 Rubles ($160) each for illegally crossing the Russian border, the press service said.
